Dr. Smith joined the Columbia River Eye Center in 2010.  He was born in LaFollette, Tennessee.  He majored in History and Science at Harvard University and attended the University of Tennessee Medical School.  After graduation, he completed an Internal Medicine residency at Dartmouth in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dr. Smith then worked as an emergency room physician for several years in New Hampshire and Vermont.  During that time, he did volunteer work at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti, the Wad el Hileau refugee camp in Showak, Sudan, and the Phanat-Nikkhom refugee camp in Phanat-Nikkhom, Thailand.  He then decided to become an ophthalmologist and completed his residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans.  He has practiced in Moscow, Idaho; Lake Havasu, Arizona; Spokane, Washington; and the Tri-Cities. As an ophthalmologist, he returned to do volunteer work at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital and at the Centro Cristiano de Servicios Humanitario clinic in El Progreso, Honduras.

Dr. Smith is Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
